Introduction

Generally, buildings are often perceived as inorganic and cold, seemingly unaffected by the passage of time. However, glass-clad buildings have the added characteristic of reflecting their surroundings. This feature is the focus of “Mutedscapes”. The scenes reflected in the mirror-like glass capture the changes in society and time. In this project, we express the flow of time that exists even in inorganic buildings through time-lapse photography and photos, conveying the charm of the often overlooked scenes reflected in buildings.

The popularization of curtain walls

The increase in such glass-clad buildings is due to advancements in architectural technology. This technology is known as curtain walls. Curtain walls refer to non-load-bearing walls, similar to partition walls, that do not bear any load during construction. This technology has made it easier to construct buildings with a design based on glass. Furthermore, by using glass exterior walls, buildings can be made lighter compared to traditional concrete exterior walls, which also has the advantage of reducing the cost of supporting the building.

Concept of the Title

The title ‘Mutedscapes’ is a compound word combining ‘muted’, which means silent or suppressed in English, and ‘scape’, which means scenery. This title carries the message that in today’s information-saturated society, we want you to immerse yourself in a landscape where information is deliberately limited, in the hope of making new discoveries.
